Let's Read Ipswich

Free help with reading

We help adults learn to read and improve their reading so they can better take part in everyday life.

Our volunteers (coaches) offer free one to one help, using workbooks and materials developed by the Shannon Trust, created specifically for adults. They meet with their readers every week in community spaces in the Ipswich area.

Our three organisers are Alison, Jenny and Karen. We have all been involved in this initiative for over 7 years and have all seen what a difference it can make to people when they be fluent readers, sometimes after many years of being too scared to speak up and ask for help. Our network of volunteers have helped lots of people in the Ipswich area.

We train our volunteers in the use of phonics, the Shannon System, which is called Turning Pages, and have regular support meetings ensuring they learn from each other.

If you need help we can meet up with you and work out how best to help, and then match you with a coach at a day and time which works for you both. There is no charge for our service.

Our service is limited to the Ipswich area and we do need our readers to have a good grasp of English. If you need help learning English, we can signpost you to this more specialist help.

It’s easy to start off a discussion with us about getting help or becoming a volunteer.
