Book Gifting

LTR use current research to ensure their offerings are focused on enriching the areas that need it most.

Key findings from recent National Literacy Trust data
Book ownership in 2024:

  • 86.7% of children and young people aged 5 to 18 said they had a book of their own at home.
  • This means 1 in 8 (13.3%) did not have a book of their own at home.
  • Children who receive free school meals are more likely to be without a book.

Cost of living impact:

  • Due to the cost-of-living crisis, 20% of parents reported buying fewer books for their children.
  • This number rises to 36.1% for parents who are struggling financially.

Book ownership and literacy engagement:

  • Children without a book at home are three times more likely to have low literacy engagement.

School libraries:

  • 1 in 7 UK primary schools do not have a library.
  • This increases to 1 in 4 in disadvantaged communities, meaning 750,000 children are missing out.
